Pacific Community Church Doctrinal Statement

THE SCRIPTURES

We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as inspired of God (2 Peter 1:21;2 Timothy 3:16-17), and inerrant in the original writings (Psalm 119:160); and that their teachings and authority are absolute, supreme and final in faith and in life. (Psalm 19:7-11; Acts 17:2-3).

THE TRIUNE GOD

We believe in one God (Isaiah 43:10), eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19-20; John 1:1-4, 14; Acts 5:3-4).

MAN

We believe that man was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God (Isaiah 53:5a; Romans 3:23, 6:23); and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and become sinners in thought, word and deed (Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3)

JESUS CHRIST

We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, and is the Son of God (Matthew 1:18-25; Isaiah 9:6). He is co-equal with the Father (John 1:1-5, 14:10-30). Jesus lived a sinless human life (Hebrews 4:14-15) and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death (Romans 1:3-4). He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again to earth to reign (Acts 1:9-11) as King of kings and Lord of lords (1 Timothy 6:14-15)

SALVATION

We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and is received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9), whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgive-ness of our sins. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ can man be saved from sin's penalty (1 Peter 1:18-19, 23). Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into one's life by faith (John 1:12; Romans 5:1).

THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe that the Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God (2 Corinthians 3:17). He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ (John 16:7-8, 14-15). He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation (John 14:16-17). He provides the Christian with power for living (Acts 1:8), understanding of spiritual truth (1 Corinthians 2:12-13), and guidance in doing what is right (Galatians 5:25)

ETERNITY

We believe that man was created to exist forever (John 3:16). He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation (Romans 6:23). To be eternally separated from God is Hell (Revelation 12:9-10; 20:10, 15). To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life (1 John 5:11-12). Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence (Matthew 25:31-46)

THE CHURCH

We believe that all who have placed their faith in Christ are united by the Holy Spirit into one spiritual body (1 Corinthians 12:13), the Church, of which Christ is the Head (Ephesians 1:22-23). This body was formed on the day of Pentecost and will be completed at the coming of Christ for His own (1 Thessa-lonians 4:15-17). The members of this one spiritual body are directed to associate themselves together in local assemblies for instruction, worship, prayer, fellowship, service, and the administration of the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper (Acts 2:41-42; Matthew 28:19; Hebrews 10:23-25; 1 Corin-thians 11:23-26). They are likewise to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3).
